I am very excited to happen upon the Michigan Civil War Blog and to immediately see that a book concerning Michigan at Antietam is to be published soon. My great-great-grandfather served in the Seventh Michigan Volunteer Regiment (Second Corps) and was fortunate to have survived the encounter in the West Woods. His name was Thomas Hatch a Private in Company I. He was promoted to Corporal after the Battle of Fredricksburg as his regiment is later known as the Forlorn Hope there.
