By act of the Michigan Legislature and signature of the Governor, today is the annual commemoration in Michigan of the fundamental contributions to abolition of slavery and equal rights to all in America made by the stalwart resident of Battle Creek from 1857 to her death on this day in 1883. See Michigan Compiled Laws section 435.361(2).
