Here are several pics from the tribute ceremony yesterday in Pontiac MI for Major General Israel Bush Richardson, first Commissioner Kim Johnson reads a proclamation, then Commissioner Brian Egen reading the list of Civil War veterans buried here, next the honor guard, finally the grave (with Governor Moses Wisner, also a Civil War officer who died while in service) -- with the credit for the preparations going to Commissioner Johnson, whose home is Pontiac and who was absolutely passionate about this event. A big thanks to all those who made it such a meaningful event, the honor guard and those who prepared the site so that the event would truly do honor to one who, to paraphrase the great Michigan poet Dudley Randall, made the earth of our State richer with his bones.
It should be pointed out that Commission President and author of "Michigan and the Civil War", Jack Dempsey, provided the keynote address of Michigan's contribution in Union victory and more specifically how General Richardson gave his "last full measure of devotion" for that cause.
