Although Michigan can claim only Gerald Ford as a U.S. President who hailed from here, it is another Chief Executive whose home is in public hands. This is the Ulysses S. Grant house located on the State Fairgrounds. Grant and his family lived in this house when stationed in Detroit in the 1840's. It has been preserved lo these many years until, in 2009, the State Fair was put out of business and the Fairgrounds closed. But, as the last post (on the Detroit GAR building) indicated, hopes for preservation of the Grant home are on the rise.
