According to today's newspapers, the Grand Army of the Republic Hall on Grand River at Cass in Detroit has a new lease on life. For two of the three owners of Mindfield "the building has a personal connection" since they "had two ancestors fight for the Union Army during the Civil War." They plan to "dedicate some space to a memorial to Civil War veterans."

The timing -- during this first year of the Sesquicentennial -- could not be better. And its reopening in 2013, 150 years after the victories at Gettysburg and Vicksburg, would be so timely.
